leona helmsley's will leaves 12M to dog, zilch to 2 grandkids

Just more proof that you can have "everything" but still have nothing of true value. You have probably heard the Bible quote that money is the root of all evil. People get that a little was actually "love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" (1 Tim 6:10)

Leona Helmsley leaves $12 million trust fund for her dog, Trouble and leaves nothing to two of her four grandchildren, for "reasons ... known to them."

This situation makes me think that Leona Helmsley was the type of person who would hold her money over her family member's heads, in order to get their attention and love. It's really sad. Major control issues. She had to get that one last 'stab' in to her grandchildren in her will. Hopefully, they don't want her money anyway.

I feel sad for this woman. She had a "successful" life by worldly standards, but based on what really matters and lasts, I feel that she cheated herself.

My feeling on leaving money to your family after you die - is a lot different than most people.

It's your money. Spend it. Live life the way you want to in retirement. Travel if you always wanted to travel. Eat at fine dining places. Try an expensive wine you have always lusted after.

Leave enough for funeral expenses and anything else that might have to be taken care of.

It just seems when there is a large amount of money to be left to children, and grandchildren, that only fighting ensues. I know when my grandparents-in-law pass away, there will be all kinds of issues.

And it looks like 2 of the 4 grandchildren are getting some money. Maybe the other 2 felt "entitled" to the money, so she took it away from them.

I agree that it was her money, and it was up to her what she did with it.

And the two kids left out of the will could have been real users. I just think it's wrong to use your will to get 'the last word' in.
